Description
English: The paddle steamer Madagascar, under the command of Capt. James Minns Dicey, is consumed by fire during a typhoon at the entrance to the Formosa Channel, while serving in the fleet of the British East India Company as part of the First Opium War against China. Three of the ship's four lifeboats were reportedly lost and 57 of the crew drowned. Taken from an engraving by E. Duncan. based on a painting by W. J. Huggins after original sketch by Capt. Dicey.
