Summary

Description The National Shrine of St. Rita of Cascia is a Roman Catholic church located on South Broad Street at the corner of Ellsworth Street in the South Philadelphia neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1907 by the Augustinian Friars. The building was revitalized beginning in 1992, and the first phase was completed in 2000. In 2003, the church was declared to be a Philadelphia Shrine by the Archbishop of Philadelphia, and later that same year the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops designated it a National Shrine.
