Ambassador Daniel Shapiro reinforced the importance of Beit Issie Shapiro (BIS) Ra’anana, as an innovative agent for social change. The March 20 visit reiterated the message of US special advisor for international disability rights Judith Heumann and the importance of inclusion in the workforce. Director of BIS Jean Judes and the ambassador discussed BIS efforts on disability legislation, and promoting awareness of the rights of people with disabilities. Ambassador Shapiro also joined discussions on barriers associated with social attitudes, and efforts to address accessibility issues as a way to increase peace and reconciliation and reduce conflict between Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. Beit Issie Shapiro is proof that everyone can add value to a society, and societies that allow all members to attain their fullest potential are better off for it.
