Deutsch: Die Bahnhöfe der Independent zeichneten sich ganz im Gegensatz zu denen der IRT durch ihre Schlichtheit aus. Die Wände waren durchgehend weiß gefliest mit einem farblich abgesetzten horizontalen Band auf Augenhöhe. Die Farbkombination zeigte an, zwischen welchen Express-Bahnhöfen man sich gerade befand. Dies sollte die Orientierung erleichtern.
Darunter stand der Name des Bahnhofs in kurzen Abständen auf die Fliesen. In jüngster Zeit werden diese Farbschemata jedoch nicht mehr verwendet. Die weiße „42“ gibt es erst seit der Renovierung nach 2000. Auch die blaue Farbe ist nicht mehr ganz original. English: One of the key features of IND stations was — in contrast to the first IRT stations — their simplicity. The walls were tiled white all over but a horizontal color stripe. The color scheme was all the same between two express stations. That was intended to help passengers to find their bearings. The name of the station was tiled again and again directly below. During the last years the color schemes were somewhat given up. The white “42” comes from renovations that took place after 2000. The blue color is not so original, too. |
