English: Pictured is HMS Kent taking part in a surface exercise with partnering NATO warships whilst participating in BALTOPS 20.

On Friday 12th June 2020, HMS Kent took part in a surface engagement exercise (SURFEX) with NATO ships whilst on BALTOPS 20.

The NATO exercise which takes place each year will see various countries take part in gunnery serials, man overboard exercises, air defence and anti-submarine exercises, and not to mention close proximity sailing.

The SURFEX enabled RN ship HMS Kent to demonstrate her agility through the water acting as a simulating hostile unit whilst utilising her helicopter as an additional air threat to the partnering units.

HMS Kent is one of the newest of the Type 23 frigates within the Royal Navy arsenal.

HMS Kent is a Type 23 frigate and part of the fleet that is considered to be central to our frontline operations. That includes disrupting the work of criminals, including smugglers, pirates and drug traffickers.

As one of the Royal Navy’s newest frigates, she’s been specially designed for versatility, meaning she can undertake a wide variety of operations, from combat and humanitarian aid to acting as a training vessel for the next generation of Royal Navy engineers. She has also played a key role in high profile ceremonial events
