Mills and Wachter, Architectural Firm (Toledo, Ohio)
Title
Mr. J. M. Ferris Residence, architectural drawings, 1890s
Description
Architectural drawings for the construction of a residence commissioned by J. M. Ferris and created by the Mills and Wachter architectural firm of Toledo, Ohio. The drawings are mostly black ink on linen and are largely undated, while there are a couple of sketches done in pencil on beige colored paper dated 1900 and 1905. The commission number for this project is listed as 0161, though this accompanies a stamp which simply states "George S. Mills" and may have been applied not during the existence of the Mills and Wachter firm, but instead when Mills was working alone. J. M. Ferris first appears living at this address in city directories in 1897, while the Mills and Wachter firm existed from 1893 to 1897. Most likely most of these drawings were created in 1895 or 1896. The drawings include two sets of plans, one initial proposed set of drawings in sheets 13 - 20, and the plans by which the house was constructed in sheets 1 - 12. The drawings include floorplans for the cellar, first floor, second floor and attic, exterior elevations for all four sides of the building, a site plan, a roof plan, and some interior detail drawings. As of 2019 this residence has not been demolished.
