English: Menstrie Castle. This Castle was built in the late 16th Century and was the birthplace of Sir William Alexander the founder of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia (New Scotland). The castle is not what you expect to find in the middle of a 1950's housing estate and indeed when the houses were being built it was threatened with demolition but was saved by the actor Moultrie Kelsall and restored. It is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
