The “December 2” Memorial Monument to commemorate the establishment of the Solidarity Front for the Development of the Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM) was inaugurated this morning in Snuol district, Kratie province.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the presidency of National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, on the occasion of the 35th Founding Anniversary of SFDCM, formerly known as the United Front for National Salvation of Kampuchea, which was established on Dec. 2, 1978 at Choeung Khlou village, “December 2” commune, Snuol district, Kratie province, to liberate the country from the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime.
The “December 2” Memorial Monument was erected on an area of 22.98 ha with a total cost of some US$3.88 million.
The United Front for National Salvation of Kampuchea was led by Cambodia’s leaders including National Assembly President Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Senate President Samdech Akka Moha Thamma Pothisal Chea Sim, and Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and other Cambodian compatriots to liberate Cambodia from starvation, heavy labor forces and genocide of the Khmer Rouge Regime that ruled the country from 1975-1979.
