English: Constantius II. 337-361 AD. Gold medallion, two solidi, 8.55g (6h). Thessalonica, 350-5 AD. Obv: FL IVL CONSTAN - TIVS PERP AVG Pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust left, seen from front. Rx: GLORIA - R - OMANORVM Roma and Constantinopolis enthroned, the one helmeted facing, the other, turreted and with right foot on prow, turned left towards her; each holding globe surmounted by Victory who is crowning her, and scepter; .TES. In exergue. RIC 143 (R5). Gnecchi 20 (citing our specimen and two others). Cohen 131 (500 Fr.). Beautiful medallion of wonderful style with an unusually oriented bust on the obverse depicting the emperor facing yet somehow effortlessly turning his head to the left. EF.
