Marksman is a British anti-aircraft gun system developed by Vickers and consisting of a special turret armed with twin 35mm Oerlikon automatic guns and a Marconi Series 400 radar. It is intended to be fitted to current or obsolete tank chassis to provide low level cover from aircraft. The only examples in service are the seven ordered by the Finnish Army in 1990, where the Marksman turrets were originally mounted on obsolete chassis’ from Polish T-55AM main battle tanks. In 2016 the Finnish turrets were re-installed on Leopard 2A4 chassis, to form what is now the Leopard 2 Marksman.
The unique vehicle seen here has a Marksman turret on a Chieftain chassis and was put together by Vickers for demonstration purposes.
