English: Manchester Ship Canal, with Salford Quays to the left and Trafford Wharf to the right. A view from the Air Shard viewing platform at the Imperial War Museum North looking along the Manchester Ship Canal towards Manchester. The Lowry Bridge, also known Millennium Bridge (it was built in 2000) provides pedestrian access between The Lowry Centre on the north bank of the Manchester Ship Canal and Trafford Wharf on the south bank. It was designed as a lift bridge because the Manchester Ship Canal is still navigable to shipping beyond the bridge.
