Summary

Description
English: The Ludham water tower, Catfield, Norfolk, UK, as seen in 2012. Built in 1980, this was the first British water tower to be made as a concrete shaft. It is close to the site of the Ludham Borehole, drilled by the Royal Society to a depth of 50 m for geological research in 1959. Analysis of the sediment samples greatly improved our understanding of the Pliocene and Pleistocene geology of East Anglia, and helped correlate the local geology with strata of equivalent age in the North Sea basin and north-west Europe.
