Public domain This is an image from the Yale University Art Gallery collections. According to the Yale University Art Gallery site, the depicted 2-dimensional work is believed to be the public domain, and the gallery's online photographs of such works are considered "open access materials", which "anyone may use … without further application, authorization, or fees due to the Gallery or to Yale." They specify "Photo credit: Yale University Art Gallery"; presumably this credit cannot be mandatory for a faithful reproduction of a two-dimensional work in the public domain, but would be courtesy.
