Description
English: The lateral line mechanoreception system in fishes works even though the mass of motion signals generated by a fish's own muscles far outweighs the small signals of interest. Commands from the brain to the lateral line via efferent nerves copy the commands to the swimming muscles, suppressing "noise" from swimming movements to reveal the small signals from the environment, such as of wriggling prey.
