Hai'tan bay and pass. — Lying between the island of the same name and the coast, this inlet may be entered by ships with a draught of 21 feet. Excellent anchorage is found there, with depths of from 30 to 50 feet. The tidal stream is very strong, and is to be guarded against when vessels enter and depart. The current attains a velocity of 5 knots at high-water of spring tides.
