Deutsch: Für den Bayerischen Wald spielte Kloster Metten einst eine bedeutsame Rolle. Die Benediktinermönche von Metten halfen die riesigen Waldgebiete urbar zu machen und zu besiedeln. Dabei war das Kloster ein Zentrum der Wissenschaft, das sich mit der Heilkraft der Natur und Technik beschäftigte. Weiterhin wurde hier die Buchmalerei gepflegt und eine Bibliothek angelegt. Diese sollte mit einer Führung unbedingt besichtigt werden, denn sie gehört mit ihren Deckengewölben und Barockmalereien zu den schönsten Klosterbibliotheken der Welt. Bereits seit 1837 gibt es das Klostergymnasium mit einem angeschlossenen Internat. |
