Description
English: Portrait of Marchioness Wentworth. Life sized, three-quarter length painting of a middle-aged women. Turned toward the spectator; the dark eyes look directly out of canvas. Pearl grey satin dress with square low neck and elbow length sleves and lace ruffles. Sapphire blue ribbon bows adorn front of bodice, sleves and back of neck. 'Watteau Plait' at back of dress. Small lace cap on grey hair, drawn back from brow. Three rows of pearls around throat, and pearl drop ear-rings. Right hand holds fan, fingers of left hand touch top bow of bodice.
