Description John Mackie (1836-1891) of Cliff House, Calder Grove, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England, and of Watford Villa, New Mills, Derbyshire. He was the owner of Cliff Colliery and Fireclay Works near Calder Grove, and a local benefactor, providing schools and other benefits. He was a co-benefactor of the Church of St James the Less, New Mills in 1880. His wife Mary Elizabeth Mackie (1844-1922) funded the building of the Church of St John the Divine in Calder Grove, in his memory in 1892.
