Em sessão do tribunal de 17 de agosto de 1906, foi eleito Presidente, cargo que exerceu até 22 de abril de 1908, data em que faleceu, no Rio de Janeiro.

Article 96: The term of protection of neighboring rights shall be 70 years from the first of January of the year following fixation for phonograms, transmission for the broadcasts of broadcasting organizations and public performance in other cases. De acordo com a Lei do Direito Autoral Brasileira (Lei 9.610 de 19 de fevereiro de 1998; veja versão em inglês): Artigo 41: Os direitos patrimoniais do autor perduram por setenta anos contados de 1° de janeiro do ano subseqüente ao de seu falecimento, obedecida a ordem sucessória da lei civil. Artigo 43: Será de setenta anos o prazo de proteção aos direitos patrimoniais sobre as obras anônimas ou pseudônimas, contado de 1° de janeiro do ano imediatamente posterior ao da primeira publicação. Artigo 44: O prazo de proteção aos direitos patrimoniais sobre obras audiovisuais e fotográficas será de setenta anos, a contar de 1° de janeiro do ano subsequente ao de sua divulgação. Artigo 96: É de setenta anos o prazo de proteção aos direitos conexos, contados a partir de 1º de janeiro do ano subsequente à fixação, para os fonogramas; à transmissão, para as emissões das empresas de radiodifusão; e à execução e representação pública, para os demais casos.
