Polski: Scena rozgrywa się we wnętrzu kościelnym. W głębi, pośrodku na ścianie afisz z datą 1863, nad nim dwugłowy czarny orzeł, a na jego piersi orzeł biały. Po prawej krucyfiks, na którym zawieszono karabin. W posadzce płyta nagrobna. Pośrodku klęczy niewiasta w czarnej sukni z rozpuszczonymi, długimi włosami (Polonia) wyciągająca nad kowadłem przed siebie ręce, aby je zakuto w kajdany. Za kowadłem stoi kowal. Za Polonią żołnierz odrywający od niej niewiastę w białej sukni. Po lewej stronie stoją dwaj rosyjscy generałowie, a u ich stóp leży zakrwawiony trup kobiety. W głębi pijący żołnierze. Po prawej grupa zesłańców - wśród nich mnich, mężczyzna w białej koszuli zaciskający pięść, kobieta z dzieckiem. Obraz namalowany szkicowo, niedokończony. Wykończona tylko została postać klęczącej kobiety w żałobie.
