English: A graph made in Excel 2007 showing the imprisonment rate in the United States by gender(sex) from 1925 to 2008. Imprisonment rate is defined by the Bureau of Justice Statistics as the number of prisoners sentenced to more than 1 year under state or federal jurisdiction per 100,000 U.S. residents. It does not include jail inmates.

I created this graph using public domain statistics provided by the United States Bureau of Justice Statistics.

  • For the years 1925 - 1999 (inclusively), the Table 6.28 on page 500 from the "Sourcebook of criminal justice statistics 2003" was used. It can be found online at link.
