DescriptionHynish dock - geograph.org.uk - 867277.jpg
English: Hynish dock Built under the direction of Alan Stevenson (one of 'The lighthouse Stevensons') to support the building of the Skerryvore lighthouse, 10 miles to the SW of Hynish. Forced to build the dock facing into the prevailing weather, it tended to silt up. To guard against this he fitted storm gates to the dock, and also installed a flushing system fed from a dam higher up in the hills.
