Summary

Description
English: Hungerford knot, uniting the Hungerford sickle and the Peverell garb. The marriage of Walter Hungerford, 1st Baron Hungerford (1378-1449), KG, to Catherine Peverell (daughter of Sir Thomas Peverell, MP, of Parke and Hamatethy, Cornwall) is symbolised in a heraldic badge showing the Hungerford knot uniting the Hungerford sickle and the Peverell garb, the latter a badge of the ancient Peverel family, feudal barons of Peverel (or of "the Peak") in Derbyshire. (Source of drawing: English Heraldry, by Charles Boutell, who erroneously calls it "The Stafford badge"). The Hastings family were heirs of Hungerford and thus also used the badges and knot.
