Summary

Title
English: Map Showing the Route of the Arkansas Regiment from Shreveport La to San Antonio de Bexar, Texas
Description
English: Depicting important overland supply routes through Texas to Mexico, Hughes' map gives a good idea of three major routes. First, there was the "Old San Antonio Road" (formerly the Camino Real) stretching from Arkansas and northwestern Louisiana southwest to Bastrop. A second road drops south through Washington-on-the-Brazos, Independence, Rutersville, LaGrange, Gonzales, Seguin, and finally San Antonio. The third and more southeasterly route passes through Angelina, Liberty, Lynchburg, Houston, San Felipe, to connect with the middle route at Rutersville. The latter road continues on to Austin, the then-isolated new capitol of Texas. All three roads required crossing numerous rivers and creeks, many of which appear on this map.
