Description
English: A Creole orphan niece of the notorious Mme de Genlis, governess to Philippe Egalité’s children, and mother of some of them, Henriette was taken by her on the outbreak of the French Revolution to England and then to Hamburg, where she married the banker Johann Conrad Matthiessen in 1796. Their daughter Emma Conradine (1801-1831) was married to Charles Standish (1790-1863), the eldest son of Lord Thomas Strickland Standish (1763-1813), in 1822. In 1801 Henriette divorced Matthiessen and married the Swiss Baron Henri de Finguerlin-Bischingen. Their daughter, Gasparine, was married to Charles’s younger brother,Thomas Strickland Standish of Sizergh (1792-1835).
Français : Henriette de Sercey, fille de Antoine Guillaume de Sercey (1732-1780) et de Marie Anne Henriette Benech de Solon, est née le 5 décembre 1772 à Torbeck (Île de Saint Domingue) alors colonie française. Elle est baptisée le 11 février 1773 (Source : Archives nationales d'outre-mer). Orpheline, elle est prise en charge par sa tante, la comtesse Félicité de Genlis, femme de lettres et chargée de l'éducation des enfants de la famille d'Orléans. Au cours de la Révolution française, Henriette émigre avec sa tante en Angleterre, puis en Allemagne à Hambourg où elle épouse en premières noces le banquier Johann Conrad Matthiessen (1751-1822), en 1796. Leur fille Émilie (dite Emma par la comtesse de Genlis) Conradine Matthiessen (1801-1831) se marie en 1822 à Carlepont avec Lord Charles Strickland Standish (1790-1863), le fils aîné de Lord Thomas Strickland Standish (1763-1813). Henriette de Sercey divorce en 1801 pour épouser la même année en secondes noces à Wolfenbüttel, près de Brunswick, le baron suisse Gaspard-Henri de Finguerlin-Bischingen (1776-1856). De cette seconde union sont nées deux filles dont Gasparine Ursule Ida de Finguerlin-Bischingen (1805-1846), mariée en premières noces en 1830 à Carlepont, au plus jeune frère de Charles Standish, Thomas Strickland Standish de Sizergh (1792-1835). Henriette de Sercey est Dame du palais d'Élisa Bonaparte, l'aînée des trois sœurs de l'Empereur Napoléon Ier. Elle devient institutrice et gouvernante de la Princesse Napoleone Élisa Baciocchi au Palais Pitti de Florence. Henriette de Sercey meurt à son domicile au 25 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré à Paris, le 29 mai 1849.
