Summary

Description Toxicoscordion exaltatum—Giant death camas. The resurrection of the genus Toxioscordion occurred in 2002 but many references, including the USDA PLANTS database and Flora of North America still call this species Zigadenus exaltatus. T. exaltatum grows below 4,000 feet in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The species is rated with MAJOR toxicity by the California Poison Control Center. Its size should be warning enough that this species is not the edible camas. Photographed at Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA.
