English: Today we have a fine shot from the Stereo Pairs collection showing a "Toy" castle somewhere! These always remind me of AJ Cronins classic novel "Hatters Castle"
[/photos/31363949@N02/ Leonard Bentley] identified the location very early in the day, well done.
Thanks for all the comments, the most interesting I think from [/photos/79549245@N06/ DannyM8]
"Lough Cultra Castle had been the home of the Vereker
family, who had the title Viscount Gort. The
3rd Lord Gort was ruined by the Famine, when he
refused to collect any rents and gave large sums of
money to charity, with the result that the estate was
bankrupted and sold up by the Encumbered Estates Court
in 1851. The castle was bought back post World War II,
by the 7th Viscount Gort. It was restored by the
family. It has since been sold again"
