Summary edit

Personal logo initially created in the mid-1960s by Jerry Glomph Black. Loosely modeled after the Swerdloc, a cartoon creature who appeared briefly in Kix Cereal commercials. Has one sneaker, branded "US Cow", a derivative of the then-popular "US Keds" brand, with the "Cow" being a reference to one Elsie Wilson, a bovine teacher at the William B. Mann Elementary School in the Wynnefield neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Predates PacMan by many years, and has absolutely no relation to that hungry, toothless, and footless Japanese fellow. This particular image was created by JG Black in the late 1970s, digitizing a hand-drawn Glomph on a BitPad tablet connected to an Apple-II computer from Harvard Medical School. In the late 1960s JG Black created a clay version of this creature, about 30 cm high, at Elk Neck (Maryland) State Park, from natural clay grabbed from shoreline hill slopes at the head of Chesapeake Bay. This clay object was then stolen in the early 1970s from JG Black's dormitory room (327 Warwick) at the University of Pennsylvania. JG Black's mother, the late Anny Winter Black, subsequently created a replacement, knitted from green yarn, and stuffed, approximately the same size as the clay model. This knitted Glomph rests on the original wooden pedestal which held the clay Glomph, and bears many ribbons and pins accumulated by JG Black over the years. For dust protection, it usually wears a US Air Force hat (simple blue cloth) found in the mid-1980s on the grounds of Hanscom Air Force Base, Massachusetts.
