Summary

Description
English: Picture of what was formerly John II and Jane Moore's home in the mid-1700's on the grounds of todays Silas T Burgess Arboretum in King of Prussia PA. The Moore's lent their home to General George Washington for General Peter Muhlenberg's Winter Headquarters during the 1777-1778 Winter Encampment in Valley Forge PA. The property and home was then mentioned in George Washington's diary as he chose to leave the Continental Convention in Philadelphia July 30th - August 1st 1787 in order to stay at Jane Moore's home for a "fishing expedition" and meet with two other Founding Father friends, Robert Morris and Gouverneur Morris on a rare break from the Constitutional Convention. Their return from this casual trip occurred just six days before the very first draft of the United States Constitution was delivered in Philadelphia. Later the home was owned by famed Architect Alexander D Irwin who engaged Historical Architect Brognard Okie to restore and renovate the home. Okie had previously restored homes such as Betsy Ross House, The President's House in Philadelphia (which was also used as home to the Daughters of the American Revolution during the 1926 World's Fair), and Pennsbury Manor, the Colonial Estate of William Penn. https://founders.archives.gov/documents/Washington/01-05-02-0002-0007-0031
