DescriptionGWR Victoria Class “Victor Emanuel”.jpg
English: "Victor Emanuel", named after the then King of Sardinia (later King of Italy), and, interestingly, using the Italian spelling of his surname, was outshopped in October 1856.
Designed by Daniel Gooch, we see her here with an early spectacle plate
and a lovely 4-wheel tender. The photo is from around 1864, just before gongs began to be fitted to tenders - these would ultimately render obsolete the porter's seat on the tender.
She must have been a fine sight with her polished brass running plate, and coupling rods that flew higher than the base of the splashers!
