Summary

Description
English: This photograph is an image of Old St Mary's, the private resident next to St Mary's, CofE, later Anglican Church of Australia. The land was originally purchased by Rev'd Moffatt, the first resident priest at Kangaroo Point in the 1860s and also the Parliamentary Librarian. The small cottge built by Moffatt was replaced by the large house the subject of your image Dr Lilian Cooper and her 'life long' friend, Miss Bedford lived in the house from c1924 to the mid 1950s. The house and land were given by Miss Bedford to an order of catholic nuns as the site for the building of a hospice to memorialise Dr Cooper (now St Vincent's Hospital).
