Summary

Description

c/n 17711, l/n 163. Built 1960 and flew for British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In November 1971 she was leased to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA), returning in April 1975 to what had then become British Airways, after the 1974 merger with British European Airways (BEA). She continued to operate with British Airways, and subsidiary ‘British Airtours’ until retired and put on display at the Cosford Aerospace Museum as part of the British Airways collection. When the collection was dissolved, a combination of corrosion and transport costs sadly meant that the last surviving Conway powered 707, along with Vickers VC10 ‘G-ARVM’ and Trident 1C ‘G-ARPH’, were too expensive to save and in early 2006 they were broken up on site. While the fuselage of the VC10 is now at Brooklands, most of the other aircraft and remains, including the complete Viscount and BAC-111, moved to East Fortune. The 707 was also reduced to a fuselage section and this is now on display, repainted in gorgeous BOAC livery and filled with fascinating displays and information, in Hangar 4 at the National Museum of Flight (part of National Museums Scotland). East Fortune Airfield, East Lothian, Scotland.
