Description
English: Upper part of a painted and fired clay statue of a seated god. The head and bust have survived and the back of his chair appears behind the shoulders. Four pairs of horns form the headdress. A cloak of fleece is seen over the left shoulder. The overall depiction probably represents the god Shamash (the sun god) There is a collar around the neck. From Ur, Iraq. Old-Babylonian period, 2000-1750 BCE. British Museum.
