| Description |
English: This true-color image of Hurricane Fiona was captured on September 22, 2022, at 5:00 P.M. AST (21:00 UTC), by the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument flying aboard NOAA's GOES 16 satellite. Fiona was a destructive and powerful hurricane during the average but destructive 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. Fiona had already gone through Puerto Rico earlier in its track, causing flooding and power outages there, and when this image was captured it was passing by Bermuda. It would go on and make landfall in Nova Scotia a day after. When this was captured, Fiona was over the open Atlantic nearing its peak intensity (in terms of barometric pressure) as a Category 4 Major hurricane, with winds of 130 mph (210 km/h) (115 knots) on the 1-min Saffir-Simpson scale and had a minimum central pressure of 934 mbar (27.6 inHg). |
