Summary

Description
English: Pictured is a female Trumpeter of the The Band of The Household Cavalry riding toward HorseGuards Arch.

When Her Majesty The Queen is in residence at Buckingham Palace a Trumpeter riding a white charger announces the arrival of the Queen’s Life Guard and leads them to their duties at Horse Guards.

The Band is the only mounted band in the British Army and is part of the Corps of Army Music. It supplies music in both mounted and non-mounted formats for State Ceremonial events, military events and the civilian market as required.

Ceremonial trumpeters are professional musicians who perform fanfares at important state occasions. When in the presence of the Royal Family, trumpeters from the Band of the Household Cavalry are referred to as ‘State Trumpeters’ and wear gold state coats bearing the royal insignia, and a blue velvet jockey cap.

For over 100 years women have served alongside men on the battlefield and women currently make up about 10 per cent of British Army personnel, working shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts as engineers, educators, lawyers, mechanics, medics and Apache pilots.
