Description

A U.S. Marine Corps McDonnell McDonnell F-4J-32-MC Phantom II (BuNo 154784) from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA-333 Shamrocks in flight. VMFA-333 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 8 (CVW-8) aboard the aircraft carrier USS America (CVA-66) for a deployment to Vietnam from 5 June 1972 to 24 March 1973.

This aircraft was shot down by a surface-to-air missile over North Vietnam on 11 September 1972, shortly after shooting down a MiG-21. Both crew, Capt. Andrew Scott Dudley and 1st Lt. James W. Brady, ejected and were picked up by SAR helicopters.
