English: Eglwys Mechell Sant, Llanfechell There has been a church on this site since 630 CE. The first, a wattle and daub affair, was built by Mechyll ab Echwys Gwyn Go Loyw. also variously known in different jurisdictions as Malo, Mechell, Machu, Machutes and Maclovius. His name is associated with churches, and settlements,in Britanny, Northern France and Ireland. He is also the patron saint of two churches he established in Gwent. The present church is medieval, with later additions, including the tower dating from the 16thC.
