Summary

Description
English: Dunbrody Abbey, Co. Wexford. The abbey was founded in 1170 on the instructions of Strongbow by his uncle Herve de Montmorency. It was completed c.1220, built by Cistercian monks from Buildwas in Shropshire. After the Dissolution the abbey was purchased by the Etchingham family, and this passed by marriage to the Chichester family, who still own the lands. The abbey was given to the Office of Public Works in 1911.
