Summary

Description

c/n LZ62. L-30 was the first ‘R-Class’ built and entered service in May 1916. She became the most successful airship of World War 1, carrying out 31 reconnaissance flights and 10 bombing missions. She was also the fastest airship of the war, being able to reach 64mph. After the war she was handed to Belgium as war reparations, but could not enter service as Begium had no suitable hangars or crew so was broken up instead. Two gondolas and other parts were saved and remain on display at what is known as the Brussels Air Museum, although it is actually the Air and Space Section of the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History. Brussels, Belgium.
