Leamington Spa is known for its Regency architecture and broad boulevards, as well as its vibrant gaming industry and a growing community of creative individuals and organisations. A short walk from the famous Royal Pump Rooms is Jephson Gardens - a beautiful formal Victorian park.
When residents were asked for their thoughts about Leamington Spa - which then formed part of the artists’ brief for this project - they said they are proud and protective of their green spaces and want to see more made of them.
North Warwickshire artist Spencer Jenkins has created a beautiful, functional sculpture with seating which will be situated close to the River Leam, in Jephson Gardens, opposite the Royal Spa Centre. The tall, flowing reed-like shapes constructed from steel, echo the reeds growing along the river, while seating is made from two giant pebbles inspired by the pebbles Spencer found at the river while researching the project.
