Summary

Description

Ball-and-stick model of a dimethyl selenide molecule, Se(CH3)2.

The C–Se bond length is 1.943 Å, the C–H bond length is 1.093 Å and the C–Se–C bond angle is 96.2°.

The structure was determined by microwave spectroscopy and reported in William M. Haynes (ed.), CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, 2016, (97th edition) p. 9–41, probably originally from J. Mol. Spectrosc. (1966) 21, 414–424. Similar dimensions are given in A. F. Wells, Structural Inorganic Chemistry (5th ed.), 1984, Oxford University Press, p. 705, citing the gas electron diffraction study J. Am. Chem. Soc. (1955) 77, 2948–2949.
