Object history
Deutsch: Volkmarsen wurde erstmals 1240 als Stadt erwähnt und das älteste Siegel ist seit 1272 bekannt. Das Siegel zeigt zwei Männer, die auf einer Bank sitzen, einen Herrn (den Grafen von Everstein) und einen Abt (den Abt von Corvey), die die beiden Herrscher über die Stadt symbolisieren.

Das zweite Siegel aus der Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts zeigt eine Kirche mit zwei Fenstern und in den Fenstern zwei religiöse Personen, höchstwahrscheinlich den Erzbischof von Köln und den Abt von Corvey, da zu dieser Zeit der Erzbischof von Köln die Grafen von Everstein abgelöst hatte.

Später wurden die beiden Figuren durch die örtlichen Schutzpatrone St. Petrus (mit Schlüssel) und St. Paulus (mit Schwert) ersetzt. Diese letztere Komposition wurde im 19. Jahrhundert in einem Wappenschild dargestellt.
English: Volkmarsen was first mentioned as a city in 1240 and the oldest seal is known since 1272. The seal shows two man sitting on a bench, a Lord (the Count of Everstein) and an abbot (the Abbot of Corvey), symbolising the two rulers over the city.

The second seal, dating from the mid 14th century, shows a church with two windows and in the windows to religious persons, most likely the Archbishop of Cologne and the Abbot of Corvey, as at the time the Archbishop of Cologne had replaced the Counts of Everstein.

Later the two figures were replaced by the local patron saints St. Peter (with a key) and St. Paul (with a sword). The latter composition was placed in a shield in the 19th century.
