Object history
Deutsch: Hammer und Schlägel, die Werkzeuge der Bergleute, sollen an den traditionsreichen Erzbergbau und die zuletzt etwa 500 Bergleute in Hövels erinnern. Sie sollen darauf hinweisen, dass auf den in der Ortsgemeinde gelegenen Gruben Eupel, Rasselskaute und Wingertshardt über Jahrhunderte der Erzbergbau ungegangen ist, der ist Struktur unserer Landschaft wesentlich geprägt hat. Die Grube Wingertshardt wurde im Zusammenhang mit der Grube Vereinigung Katzwinkel stillgelegt, während in der Grube Eupel bis zum Februar 1964 gefördert wurde. Der goldene Untergrund soll die natürliche Farbe des hier hauptsächlich gewonnenen Spateisensteins (32 bis 38 v.H. Eisengehalt) symbolisieren.
