Summary
DescriptionDEC VAX VAXBI T1034 DEBNT Ethernet and TK50 tape drive controller.jpg |
English: DEC VAX VAXBI T1034 DEBNT Ethernet and TK50 tape drive controller. There is a variation of this board without most of the TK50-related components, which would make it purely an ethernet controller. See https://gunkies.org/wiki/File:DEBNT.jpg for an example. Note lack of MPSC, i186, i186 RAM and ROM and absence of the RS-422 line drivers and some glue logic. That board is still marked DEBNT T1034, though it almost certainly has different part and ordering numbers. |

VAXBI corner with BIIC (Bus Interconnect Integrated Circuit) ASIC
DEC MicroVAX 78032 (chip number DC333R and part number 21-20887-05) microprocessor
BCI3 ASIC (chip number DC344, part number 78733-PA , purchase number 21-23839-01). This connects to the BCI bus coming out of the VAXBI corner and connects it to the MicroVAX's II32 (interchip interconnect) bus.
AMD Am7992 Serial Interface Adapter (SIA), which handles data en/decoding between the MAC (Am7990) and the Ethernet AUI (Attachment Unit Interface)
AMD 80186 microprocessor running the TK50 tape interface portion of the card.
NEC µPD7201C "Multiprotocol, Serial Communications Controller"
This chip seems to implement both synchronous (HLDC and SLDC) and asynchronous (standard UART) interfaces. According to the student guide, this is what actually connects to the TK50 tape drive. The MPSC is connected to the 80186 bus.
2x TC5565 SRAM for the 80186 (2x 8Kx8, so 16 KBytes of RAM)
2x Intel D27128 ROMs, so 32 KBytes of firmware for the 80186
4x D43256 SRAM, 32Kx8. This is attached to the 32-bit MicroVAX bus, and provides a total of 128 KBytes of RAM for the MicroVAX.
4x 27256 ROMs, providing a total of 128 KByte of firmware storage for the MicroVAX. Accessed through a 32-bit bus.
DC029 (78702, 19-22111-01) VAXBI Clock Receiver
16-25072-01-AI, PE-64578 "XFMR,75UH"; likely the isolation transformer for the AUI interface made by Pulse Engineering. Also appears on the DELQA.
Am26LS31 (quadruple differential line driver) and Am26LS32 (quadruple differential line receiver) likely implement the serial lines to the TK50 tape. These are RS-422 line drivers/receivers.
