Summary

Description

This bridge over the River Spey, by civil engineer Thomas Telford, was erected in 1812 - 1814 and lies close to the village of Craigellechie, north of Aberlour, Morayshire, Scotland.

It's a good example of a cast-iron bridge and is still in great condition. Until a few years ago it carried all traffic between Elgin and Grantown on Spey on the A941. It has recently been described by the BBC as one of Scotland's most iconic bridges. It is believed to be the oldest surviving example of Telford's classic prefabricated lozenge-lattice arch design.

A new, modern bridge was built close by in 1970 and since 1972 this older bridge only carries pedestrian traffic.

The Telford bridge has, I think, elegance and I've visited it many times.
