Summary
editDescription | Bedform phase diagram for contourite deposits. This diagram shows the observed bedform geomorphology of a contourite deposit depending on the flow velocity during deposition and the average grain size of the sediment being deposited. |

Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) | This image is a unique result of scientific research on the topic of contourite deposits. It shows the specific characteristics that would be observed in a deep water deposit if the flow velocity and average grain size is known. This is extremely important when describing the geomorphology of these deposits (i.e. how they look) and their dependence on the two parameters: flow velocity and grain size. By actually showing the shapes that these deposits take, the entire concept of contourite deposition is much more readily understandable. |
Not replaceable with free media because (WP:NFCC#1) |
The shapes and diagrams were discovered and created by the authors so any copy of this would have to be identical to the original. |
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) | This file will be shown in the geomorphology section of the "contourite" article only. It does not really serve a purpose anywhere else in Wikipedia. |
Respect for commercial opportunities (WP:NFCC#2) |
The authors are researchers and professors at various universities that do not make money out of selling their research. This specific image has been published in a scientific journal article (mentioned before) and has been used by many other researchers during talks and other publications while citing the original authors. In academia, citations back to the original work are how authors benefit from publication and that is exactly what I would like to do as well: a full citation back the to original article in which this image was first published. |
Other information | This is an image from a scientific publication that is indispensable to explaining the scientific concept of "contourite geomorphology". |
