Unter dem roten Kardinalshut zeigt das Wappen Kardinal Wetters im Schild den Freisinger Mohren mit roter Krone auf goldenem Grund und drei goldene Flammen auf rotem Grund.

Der Mohr zeigt die Verbindung zum Erzbistum München und Freising. Die Flammen als Symbole des Heiligen Geistes („und es erschienen ihnen Zungen wie von Feuer“, Apostelgeschichte 2,3) weisen auf das Pfingstereignis hin. In ihrer Dreizahl sind sie zugleich Symbol für das zentrale Geheimnis des christlichen Glaubens, das Mysterium der heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit. Christen werden im Namen des Vaters und des Sohnes und des Heiligen Geistes getauft.

Am Fuß des hinter dem Schild aufgestellten Patriarchalkreuzes ist auf weißem Grund der Wahlspruch des Erzbischofs geschrieben: „Pax vobis. Der Friede sei mit euch!“. Es ist der Gruß, mit dem der auferstandene Jesus nach dem Bericht des Johannesevangeliums in die Mitte seiner Jünger trat (Joh 20,19).
