File:ClockTower Herne Bay 011.jpg

Original file(3,318 × 2,109 pixels, file size: 8.67 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Description

Postcard of the Clock Tower and Portland stone drinking fountain given to the town in 1888 by London Alderman Col. Horatio Davies, who became Lord Mayor of London. The drinking fountain is now in a sunken garden opposite Telford Terrace on the sea front. The third Herne Bay Pier is in the background.

Points of interest
  • The photo can be dated between 1899 and 1909 because the third Herne Bay Pier has been built but Grand Pier Pavilion is not yet built.
  • The old fog-warning guns from the first pier are not yet on the steps of the Clock Tower.
