English: The Chisan Seowon (private Confucian academy) on this site is dedicated to the memory of Park Jae-sang, a loyal official of Silla. Park Jae-sang was sent by his king to retrieve the king's two brothers held hostage but ultimately was held hostage himself, tortured and put to death.
Park's wife mourned herself to death. People called Park's wife Chisul-sinmo (godmother) and built a shrine to perform memorial services for her. It is said that Chisan Seowon was also built upon the site of the shrine during the Joseon Dynasty.
