DescriptionCascade Bicycle Club commuter booth on Mercer Island - I-90 Trail.jpg
It's Bike Month, but not yet Bike to Work Day, so I was surprised to see a Cascade Bicycle Club booth set up on the I-90 Bicycle Trail this morning on Mercer Island, just off the floating bridge.
They're trying to reach out to the novice bike commuters who are riding across the I-90 bridge instead of driving to avoid traffic backups while construction has the express lanes closed most of this month.
Expect even worse traffic backups in July when the westbound main span is closed for expansion joint replacement. It's about ten minutes by bicycle from Mercer Island to the west end of the bridge, I suspect a lot of commuters stuck in hour-long backups could save time, money, and stress if they bike across and take a bus.
